I chose Gerard Way because he is my favorite person in the whole world and he's gone through so much and he just becomes a stronger and better person with everything he goes through and I don't know who I'd be right now without him. He's hit rock bottom, but than he rose up to be on top of the world. He's my biggest inspiration out of anyone.

Around 2004, Gerard had hit rock bottom. Their tour manager was getting calls at five in the morning from him admitting that it wasn’t just the booze and the pills but cocaine too. First, there were calls of him admitting he had a problem, then calls of him fighting that he had a problem, then, finally, him saying he wanted to kill himself. Since then, he’s been completely clean and sober and just sticks to his coffee. “Sometimes you have to kind of die inside in order to rise from your own ashes and believe in yourself and love yourself to become a new person.” –Gerard Way
Gerard came into the world at the same time as punk. Every band he's been drawn too are from around the period of Elvis' death. Music is his life, him and his wife take up the whole day talking of music. The newest album, Danger Days, set out to be a raw punk record, that didn't happen though. He did the opposite of what people want him to do. The record sounds like, "running through a feild of flowers with a butcher knife." He's changed a lot over the years, he doesn't want to be one of the guys that dies young anymore, he wants to live. A lot of that came from the birth of his now two-year-old daughter, Bandit. He wants to be around, he says, "Performance is fine, yeah, but I like to create. I didn’t want to run out of time. I just want to keep making things. If you’re not around, you’re not making anything."
